The Street as Stage: A Conversation on Street Photography

What happens when two photographers, separated by geography and generation, discover a shared way of seeing? Join French-born photographer Patrick de Mervelec and Cape Town photographer Quaniet Richards for a conversation about the enduring appeal of street photography, their long association with Leica cameras, and the publication of their latest books. While de Mervelec’s work reflects decades of observing South Africa as both outsider and insider, Richards’ photographs capture the rhythms and complexities of contemporary Cape Town. Together, they explore the street as a space of observation, encounter and storytelling, revealing how photography continues to transform everyday moments into lasting visual narratives.
